In the traditional facelift surgery, a slit is made in front of the ear which extends up into the hairline. The slit bends around the ear's bottom and then behind it, generally ending near the hairline on the back of the neck. After the slit is made upon the skin, the skin is alienated from the deeper tissues with a stiletto or scissors over the cheeks, chin and neck.
